Well summer 2010 looks set to be exactly the right time to see who sells cheap ebook readers. I’m not talking dodgy brands you have never heard of either. These are big names in the world of personal electronics that are now offering us Brits some great deals on our electronic reading devices.
For now, my two favorite cheap eBook readers are completely different types of gadget. Let’s have a look-see….
- The UK Kindle 2. Yes I know the Kindle international wireless reader has been around for a while. But it has just had a software upgrade so now does a lot more of that flashy stuff we like (you know, automatically switches from portrait to landscape display – faster refresh rate and so on). More importantly though the Kindle UK Price has just gone down by a whopping 27%, making it now one of the cheapest decent readers on the market. It’s an e-ink display machine which means you get boring black, white and grey to look at. But since this is really just for reading books and not a lot else, boring black, white and grey keeps you in the old-fashioned ‘reading a book’ zone.
- Our second choice is probably the lowest priced eBook Reader in the UK (well that you might actually want anyway). The New Elonex Ebook Reader uses a whopping 7″ full colour, touch-screen display to give you an iPad feel at the price of a cheap(ish) mobile phone. Rumoured to be made available for under one hundred pounds, it is currently only available for back-order at a slight premium. Still this looks set to show geeks that prefer colour and touch just how cheap an e-Reader can be.
