In today’s article I will talk about something that you may not even know it existed. Have you ever heard of electric rice cookers? You can find one of these in almost every Japanese home. My personal theory is that the Japanese came up with this idea because:
1-) they love eating rice;
2-) they are demanding with their food standards;
3-) they are perfectionist people;
4-) cooking rice is a repetitive task;
5-) they love to invent new gadgets.
Jokes aside, the fact is that the rice cooker is really, really helpful in the kitchen. Since the rice becomes one less thing to worry about, you can now focus in preparing other foods. The overall result is better, since you reduce the amount of kitchen tasks while preparing supper.
Cooking white rice usually takes around 40 minutes, while brown rice takes 60-70. That’s enough time to prepare an entire meal and even get started on doing the dishes you used during meal preparation. The best, though, is the rice: always warm and fluffy. That possibility alone already means a lot! And if you trade the white rice for brown rice, then it’s already halfway into starting a low glycemic diet.
So, in the end, not only you save time in the kitchen, but you also eat homemade, healthier foods. When would you imagine that would be even possible?
Although there are many brands in the market today, even for the cheapest rice cookers there is only one I would recommend without any restrictions, and that the Sanyo rice cooker. It has features that exist on other brands as well, however Sanyo is the only brand that offers the “bread” function. This function can mean a great deal to people who, for example, live in tiny apartments or university dormitories without an oven.
